Notes:

  • Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suárez finished fourth in Sunday’s 400-mile race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
  • After an ultraquick pit stop that moved him from seventh to second, Suárez took the lead with three laps to go and looked like he might capture his first career victory.
  • While racing hard for the checkered flag, eventual winner Kyle Larson, Austin Dillon and Erik Jones slipped past the No. 99 in the final laps.
  • The fourth-place finish equaled Suárez’s best since joining Trackhouse last season.
  • It was nearly a two-car Trackhouse show in the final laps as Suárez and Chastain raced in the top eight. But, a spin with 27 laps to go ruined Chastain’s day despite racing in a backup car.
  • Both drivers spent much of the race working to overcome the bumps on the treacherous two-mile track in a race dominated by several spins and cautions.
  • Suárez started 15th and asked his team to work on the Freeway Insurance Chevrolet’s balance before finishing 12th in the first stage.
  • Suárez finished 15th in stage 2 despite dropping to 31st on pit road to allow his crew to fix a diffuser flap.
  • The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Freeway Insurance Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing:

“We’re going to win a few races very soon here. I just can’t thank everyone enough in my team. We had a fast car, but we went through a lot of adversity. We had a few issues. We hit the wall once. We had an issue with a diffuser. My pit crew, those guys are legends; it’s unbelievable. It’s the best pit crew I’ve ever had, and it’s a lot of fun to race like that. Freeway Insurance, Chevrolet, everyone that helps Trackhouse out, to be able to be here and perform this way. I’m happy and I’m honored at the same time. I can tell you that I’m going to work very, very hard to go to Victory Lane very, very soon here.”
