Races August 8, 2022 Untimely Caution and Flat Tire Ruin Chances of Victory for No. 99 Team Date: August 7th, 2022 Event: FireKeepers Casino 400 (Round 23 of 36) Series: NASCAR Cup Series Location: Michigan International Speedway (2-mile oval) Format: 200 laps, broken into three stages (45 laps/75 laps/80 laps) Start/Finish: 15th / 25th (completed 298 of 200 laps) Point Standing: 13th with 556 points Notes: Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suárez finished 25th in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at the Michigan International Speedway. It was a stellar performance, but disappointing finish for both Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet Camaro drivers who combined to lead 62 of 200 laps on Sunday. With 45 laps remaining, Suárez and Ross Chastain ran first and second and it looked like the duo would battle for the victory. The Trackhouse cars pitted together under green and returned to the track a lap down to the leaders who were getting ready for their pit stops. As the Trackhouse drivers were about to pass the leaders and unlap themselves, second-place driver Christopher Bell made contact with Chastain sending his car into the wall and bringing out the caution. The untimely caution dropped both Trackhouse drivers off the lead lap. Suárez received the free pass and restarted 18th. The race ran without caution until the checkered flag. Suárez drove to 13th, but a cut tire in the final laps brought him to pit lane for repairs and left him with a 25th-place finish. Suárez finished second in the second stage and led 33 laps in the final stage. The No. 99 driver started 15th after qualifying on Saturday. The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action Sunday at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Worldwide Express Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing: “It was a very disappointing finish for us. I really thought we both had great cars today. I don’t know what happened but that wreck couldn’t come at a worse time. It cost both Ross and I a shot at the victory. My guys gave me a great Worldwide Express Chevrolet today and it was fast.”
