Suárez saw his chances for victory go away with a broken jack on a pit stop as he ran in the top five with just over 50 laps remaining in the race. Suárez slowly worked his way up to 27th by the end of stage 1. Suárez continued his march to the front using good pit strategy and an improved handling car to climb into the top-10 before finishing Stage 2 in seventh. Suárez started the race 23rd but dropped to the rear of the field on the pace laps to serve a penalty for a transmission change before the race. The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action Sunday for the 350-kilometer race at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway in Napa.
